Sir Tancred is the Regent of Upel, managing the dukedom during Alcedor's absence. He is a particularly respected military commander and is held in high regard by many of his soldiers.
Appearance[]
Tancred is shown always wearing armor with a yellow tunic on top. Although most of his head is covered by his helmet, his face sports a great mustache, often elected as the best in Upel (to Hans' dismay). His weapon of choice is a halberd.
History[]
Not much is known about the life of Tancred prior to the return of Alcedor. As a regent, he was in control of Upel during the Crusades, and although his subordinates speak highly of him, the other villagers seem to be indifferent. Nevertheless, he shows to be quite a capable fighter and a righteous man.
During the Gather Reinforcements quest, the Captain of Kastski will ask the player to direct the reinforcements commanded by Tancred to help defend the village at night. Upon arriving there, they will be ambushed by cultists and you will be prompted whether to keep the reduced forces in the aforementioned village or at Darsov.
After a failed cultist attempt at conquering the town, Tancred will give you the player the Destroy the Cult quest. Together they will storm each and every one of the known Cult hideouts, culminating in Robert's defeat in the cemetery hideout near the end of the quest.
If the player has joined the cult, they will be tasked to Kill Tancred as he arrives on the Shores of Upel with reinforcements. There he fights similar to the Urzon Cultists and Captains as a Miniboss, with the exact same moveset. After dealing enough damage he will make a daring escape, only returning near the end of the Cultist questline.
Battle Of Darsov[]
At the very end of the Battle of Darsov quest, the player will fight Tancred as the final obstacle standing between them and total victory upon Darsov's defending forces, with the inside of the town's now-burning cathedral serving as an arena.
He is much more threatening here than in any of the other encounters between him and the player, both during the Good and Evil paths, sporting surprisingly large amounts of health and attack. What makes this event even more intense is the fact that the previous boss fights have, with great chances, made a dent in the player's resource stockpile, leaving them with very little room for error. He has one of the largest movesets of any enemy and boss, being able to do spinning attacks (with a jumping variation), block with his halberd, dash at the player and swipe up while jumping.
This unpredictability makes it difficult to avoid damage while still getting in a few hits of your own. If the player is not sure of their capacity, they must play it safely, dealing one or two hits and then retreating to prepare themselves for an attack. Skills and spells are particularly useful; the Shield Spell can reduce damage, although the thorn shield upgrade will not help much as it is strongly recommended to stay away from Tancred if not attacking. The Familiar Spell, which you should have by then upgraded into Fiend, can help get in more damage at a safe distance. Hellfire is another way of attacking Tancred without exposing oneself to his retaliation. Bring lots of potions; this battle isn't easy, and the rest of the quest will probably drain you as well.
After depleting all of the boss's HP, Tancred will be stunned, allowing you to bash his head in repeatedly and finish the quest.

Trivia[]
- During the Destroy The Cult quest, after beckoning Tancred and the guards into attacking the hideouts you can simply leave the current area instead of going inside. Doing so and then returning will prompt Tancred to berate Alcedor for his lack of initiative. Do this till the Mount Kastka hideout and you will earn the Sins of Omission achievement. When you do the hideout in Kadjanto Peak, he'll wait till you enter the hideout then follow through.
- Tancred defeat animation and death is similar to the fatality system of Mortal Kombat, when the defeated kombatant will end up in an dizzy animation before the winner perform the Fatality by killing in an extremely brutal fashion.
