Belphegor, the Father of Destruction is the main final boss, fought at the end of Urzon Citadel if the player does not possess the Necronomicon. Otherwise, he will meet an untimely demise at the hands of a demonic entity, whose identity changes depending on whether the player is on the Ultimate Good or the Ultimate Evil paths.
With all the typical characteristics of a final boss, the demon appears as a purple, muscular humanoid, whose imposing stature and large form serve to establish its identity as a real threat and the player's final challenge before finally saving Upel. Other striking features of Belphegor are his maroon beard, pair of horns and the massive trident he carries as a weapon.
Strategy[]
As potentially the last enemy the player will face in their adventure, Belphegor is definitely not to be taken lightly. This boss possesses a wide array of techniques, ranging from launching magical attacks (such as fire and portals) to brute force attacks. Nevertheless, he moves and attacks somewhat slowly, and his size makes for an easy target. He can use the following attacks:
- Belphegor awkwardly kicks at the enemy. This is his weaker melee attack, and arguably weakest attack in general.
- Belphegor thrusts his trident at the enemy. This attack is much stronger than his kick. He can only use it when he has his trident.
- Belphegor raises his trident before hurling it at the player character. This attack deals massive damage if it connects, but Belphegor cannot use his trident attacks until he retrieves the weapon from the ground.
- Belphegor jumps and lands heavily, causing part of the roof to collapse. Damaging tiles will rain from the ceiling to the ground, similar to the attack used by Mammon.
- Belphegor opens a portal directly above the player character which drops a huge harmful glob straight down. This projectile splits into several droplets upon contact with the ground, giving it some area coverage.
- Belphegor spits a giant fireball from his mouth. This attack deals massive damage, but can only hit a character mid-jump. However, upon hitting the wall, the fireball splits into a volley of smaller fire shots that spread in a fan.
Unlike most other bosses thus far, his trident attacks are particularly damaging and can easily take off over half of one's health reserves, even if they have obtained the final armor upgrade. As such, bringing potions and casting spells is recommended, especially the Shield Spell as it reduces the damage dealt and opens up more room for error. His other attacks are not nearly as damaging, but can catch the player off guard nonetheless.
Thankfully, the boss arena is the largest yet, allowing for a lot of mobility and giving the player freedom to formulate their own strategy. Since there are no bottomless pits, Holy Charge can be used without fear and is a great skill to use if you need a safe way of dealing damage, albeit it is very slow and tedious.
Weakness[]
Belphegor has no specific weak point; his entire body can be hit for damage. Due to how large he is and the favorable boss arena, hitting him is hardly going to be a problem (especially with the Firestorm spell, but the player must be aware of his attacks at the same time. Using the Shield Spell can mitigate that issue somewhat, and the Thorn Shield spell lets the player deal damage without needing to attack.
After throwing his trident, he will slowly try to make his way to its landing spot to retrieve it. However, the player can distract him by standing nearby, prompting the boss to kick or jump in your direction. If done properly, you can keep the demon disarmed for the rest of the fight, making it much safer to stay near him and deal damage (which he can only punish with his weak kick instead of his monstrously strong trident thrust), eventually resulting in his death.
