The Baphomet is the main antagonist and final boss in Infernax during The Path of Righteous.
Strategy[]
The arena where Baphomet's fight takes place initially has three platforms, however, the demon will immediately destroy the rightmost one upon making his entrance, and will likely destroy the rightmost one as he periodically switches from left to right as the fight goes on, meaning only the central platform is safe.
While Baphomet's entire body is vulnerable to attacks, only his head can normally be reached with melee attacks, which means you need to jump in order to reach him. However, the Holy Weapon spell and the Doves spell can let Alcedor damage him without needing to jump and can thus tear through the demon lord with minimal effort if Alcedor has the mana to cast them.
Baphomet has four attacks:
- Baphomet summons several small flying bird-like demons from a pentacle, similar to the demonic familiar created by the Fiend spell. This is his easiest attack to deal with, as the minor demons don't deal much damage, fly in a straight path and there are not that many of them.
- Baphomet's chest opens up to summon a massive swarm of Red Eyes. Their sheer numbers make them slightly troublesome to deal with, but at this point in the game, they don't deal too much damage to Alcedor. Guided Strike can wipe out the horde with minimum trouble.
- Baphomet rears up before exhaling a breath of flames that travels across the entire central platform. This deals tremendous damage if it connects and is probably his most troublesome attack. To avoid mistiming your jump, stand clear of Baphomet when you see this attack being prepared and jump just as he starts spewing his flames, not before. If you do jump too early, you can use the Skycall skill to extend your air time.
- Baphomet flies off and starts feasting on the piles of damned corpses in the background before throwing them at Alcedor, typically three at a time. The gore projectiles will fall vertically from above and deal severe damage if they connect. The location where a projectile will fall is briefly foreshadowed by a rain of blood, usually allowing Alcedor to move out of the way on time, although unfortunate RNG can result in patterns that are difficult to escape. Baphomet is completely invulnerable to everything during this attack.
Trivia[]
- Baphomet's appearance is inspired by his iconic depiction as "the Sabbatic Goat" in Eliphas Levi's book Dogme et Rituel de la Haute Magie. In this book, Baphomet represents the union of mutually opposing principles (human and animal, good and evil, male and female) and therefore has both male and female characteristics, explaining his large bosom.
